Precision Machined Castings
Eagle Bridge Machine & Tool, Inc. is a precision, production machining business. The company specializes in machining medium sized to heavy castings used in a variety of industries, including mass transportation rail trains and cars, defense, oil and gas drilling and other commercial markets. The company routinely works with castings made of steel, iron, aluminum and other materials. Representative products include bearing housings, rail truck components, brake brackets, rotors, suspension housings, drill elevators, starter and alternator housings and other components. EBM will manufacture prototypes and special production parts, but we typically undertake projects requiring production runs of 50 to 50,000 parts.
While EBM serves a variety of industries, it’s business has evolved to emphasize machining of critical, heavy-duty (steel & ductile iron) undercarriage parts for the mass transit industry – light and heavy duty trains, cars and subways. The company works with original equipment manufacturers and produces replacement parts for numerous rail customers and transit systems.
EBM is well known for machining to exacting standards. Many of the parts we produce – most notably for the rail and oil drilling industries - must meet stringent quality specifications. EBM’s quality department is comprised of highly experienced engineers and quality assurance experts. We work closely with suppliers and customers to certify that all parts meet required specifications.
Although EBM primarily serves customers located in North America, we have manufactured parts used in transit projects internationally. EBM works closely with its customers to find the most advantageous sources for raw castings. Currently, we maintain relationships with foundries located in North America, Central America, China and India.
As a New York State business, EBM is ideally suited to help non-US based OEM train manufacturers meet “Buy American” requirements on transit projects receiving federal funding. In addition, we also help OEMs meet local content requirements on contracts awarded in New York, the largest transit market in the United States.
EBM’s success is predicated on the production of quality parts, just in time delivery and fair pricing. This is accomplished through experienced, knowledgeable employees, and investment in state of the art machinery with the capacity and technology to produce precision machined castings in the most cost effective manner.
Manufacturing Process
EBM follows a highly consultative approach with our customers.
Typically, customers submit part specifications, designs and base price parameters. Our production and quality engineers then analyze the part for function, ability to be cast and manufacturability. In many instances, we recommend design modifications to reduce cost, improve function or increase manufacturing efficiency. Frequently, customers will present EBM with drawings for machined parts, and EBM will design the raw castings from which the machined parts are derived. Periodically, EBM will work with customers to redesign weldments into more cost effective, functionally superior cast parts.
Customers may supply EBM with castings or require EBM to procure castings from qualified foundries on their behalf. In the latter model, which is frequently used by our transit customers, EBM becomes fully responsible for assuring the quality of castings from foundry source through delivery to our customers’ final assembly plants. In these instances, EBM works closely with customers to identify and qualify appropriate foundries. Once a foundry is selected, EBM will work with that supplier in designing molds, specifying appropriate casting techniques and recommending sustainable manufacturing processes. EBM coordinates “first article inspections” on new castings and assures ongoing compliance with quality specifications and certifications. Where quality issues arise with raw castings, EBM works aggressively with its suppliers and customers to correct problems and maintain schedules.
Upon receiving raw castings from its foundry suppliers, EBM will perform specified inspections and testing before commencing machining. In some instances, and where permitted, EBM has the capability to repair castings. In addition to machining, EBM can paint and powder-coat parts when required and it can do sub-assembly work.
